Meet Moronke Harris
Moronke Harris (moronkeharris.com) is an award-winning deep-sea scientist with experience in climate engineering and intergovernmental, multi-vessel research expedition planning on the high seas. She is fascinated with exploration, innovation, and the blue economy. Currently completing graduate studies in Oceanography at the University of Victoria (Canada), her research focuses on sustainable innovations provided by the most unexplored areas of the ocean, containing the most potential for discovery. Moronke specializes in the alien world of seafloor superheated geysers: hydrothermal vent ecosystems 1000-4000 m under the ocean's surface. She has spent over 150 days of her life collaboratively exploring Earth's final frontier using submersibles.
Moronke sits on multiple strategic planning and advisory governing bodies including the Ocean Wise Board of Directors and the UN-endorsed Early Career Ocean Professionals Canada Advisory Board.
Beyond academic pursuits, Moronke is an accomplished multihyphenate and founder of ‘The Imaginative Scientist’: a science communication and creative consulting brand blending traditional outreach and artistry to produce an audience-first approach that engages, invites, and inspires curiosity. She has diligently worked towards creating awareness, documenting, and inspiring action through her writing, social media, podcasts, and presentations. Brand experience includes 70+ national and international speaking engagements, documentary narration, on-camera talent, video production collaborations garnering 300,000+ views, and consultation for gallery installations, video game development, and film production.
Moronke has been featured by TEDxVictoria, Jackson Wild, The National Film Board of Canada, Science World, and The Ocean Exploration Trust and is an active CBC Radio-Canada contributor.
