Municipal Marvels Student Challenge (MMSC)

What does your community look like in 50 years?

Imagine a future where your region leads the way in sustainability. As a team, identify a unique climate change-related issue in your community and develop an innovative solution that can inspire hope and create meaningful change. Collaborate with local groups, apply your creativity, and showcase how your sustainable solution can transform your region for the better.

The Municipal Marvels Student Challenge is inspired by the Future Cities Challenge (featured in the IMAX documentary Cities of the Future). The Saskatchewan Science Centre is implementing a SK-focused student challenge, aiming at providing innovative solutions for municipalities in a prairie context. The contest will be open to any and all groups of students, from across any community in Saskatchewan, to participate in.

Students will compile their teams and submit a two-page document or video explaining their sustainable solution to one of many problem statements (which will be developed in partnership with our MMSC Advisory Committee!). These submissions are accepted until October 31, 2024.

Following the closing of submissions, the MMSC Advisory Committee will decide on a number of finalists, who will then receive a bursary of $250 to complete a physical model of their solution, which will be presented at the final competition in spring 2025. The winning group will receive a cash prize!

How to Get Started:

  1. Find a Project Leader/Educator

  2. Build your team! (minimum 3 students)

  3. Create your proposal about what you would do with $250 to address one of the problem statements based on the program deliveries.

  4. Submit your initial proposal by October 31, 2024, at 11:59 CST

Keep an eye out for upcoming updates!

Submissions are not yet being accepted.
