Teachers! Come One, Come All and Celebrate Earth Day with Us!

On April 15th, 2019 we are inviting all teachers to bring their class and celebrate Earth Day with us!

Come join the fun on April 15th at the Saskatchewan Science Centre with your class! In partnership with The Co-operators we want to show off all of the amazing things to celebrate, so each year we take some extra moments to focus on our planet – how we live on it, explore who, and what else lives on it, and things we can all do to take care of our home.

Approximately 120 Students between grades 4-6 are invited to participate. The cost will be standard school admission rates.

During this event students will spend approximately 20 minutes at each station while learning about the various aspects of Earth Day related activities. These include:

Sarah Romuld, Ecologist from the Government of Saskatchewan will teach students about the anatomy of a fish while leading a fish dissection.

The City of Regina will be demonstrating how to best identify garbage and recycling with their hands-on bean bag toss activity to ensure each goes in the proper bin. They will also be hosting a second station related to the benefits of composting and seed planting to demonstrate the benefits they provide.

Emily Putz operation Burrowing Owl Coordinator from Nature Saskatchewan will be leading a game show titled "Pitch for Plovers and Pipits" related to protecting the habitat for some of Saskatchewan’s birds.

Anna Hall, Masters in Environment and Sustainability will be leading an activity where students will have to use their ears to identify different song birds and discover where their habitats are.

The Saskatchewan Science Centre will be leading an owl pellet dissection collected from Bubo, the great horned owl that we house.
