Meet the Saskatchewan Science Centre Animal Ambassadors
in the All-New EnviroLab
Welcome to EnviroLab at the Saskatchewan Science Centre! Get ready for an adventure as you meet our charming animal ambassadors, including red-eared slider turtles, a bearded dragon, a corn snake, a leopard gecko, a rose-haired tarantula, tiger salamanders, and our newest resident, a bull snake. These captivating creatures serve as ambassadors, connecting people of all ages with nature and environmental conservation.
But What exactly is an animal ambassador?
Animal ambassadors play a crucial role in fostering an appreciation for wildlife and promoting a sense of stewardship towards nature. By getting up close to these amazing animals, you'll ignite a lifelong interest in wildlife conservation.
Why do we have animals at the Saskatchewan Science Centre?
The answer lies in a remarkable journey that started with kind-hearted individuals who donated these animals to us. Initially, they were looking for a loving home for these creatures they could no longer care for. However, as time went on, the Science Centre evolved and developed the expertise needed not only to provide the best care for these animals but also to engage with them as animal ambassadors. Our commitment to their well-being is ongoing, ensuring they thrive under our watchful eyes while inspiring visitors like you.
Can any organization or individual keep wild animals?
Not just anyone. The Ministry of Environment plays a vital role in regulating the keeping of wild animals and determining which species can be kept. Through our efforts, the Saskatchewan Science Centre has obtained a zoo permit under The Captive Wildlife Regulations, granting us the privilege to house and care for these awe-inspiring creatures.
